09/10/2008 :: Border Crossing :: Virgin Festival Calgary & Toronto Summer 2008

Global Inheritance ventured up north to visit our friends, the Canadians, and run several great programs. Last year’s Global Warming Chess episode was memorable. This year's menu included the return of the TRASHed Recycling Store, a solar powered computer lounge and camera/ipod charging station, a how-to-make biodiesel demonstrations, bike powered cell phone charging stations + more.

So when people weren’t raging to STP, Oasis, Foo Fighters, Tradically Hip or the other 5 million bands performing, we offered an escape into a different world with a renewable and recyclable theme.

TD Go Zone hosted the coolest solar powered computer lounge ever with an ipod/camera charging station and live vegetable oil to biodiesel conversions and how-to demos.  Everyone at Armstrong (Lisa & Jenny) and TD were amazing.

The biodiesel community in Canada is a fraction of what we see here everyday in Southern California, so the connection with the Canadian festival goers was really cool.

Motorola sponsored Global Inheritance’s bike-powered cell phone charging station, allowing festival goers to stay in charge and in touch with family and friends. (Thank you to Mellisa, Stephanie, Brad and bike models!)

Lastly, Virgin Mobile supported the TRASHed Recycling Store in order to keep the festival grounds clean and the footprint to a minimum. Thank you to Virgin Mobile (Nikisha, Brandi, Mike and Segal) and everyone involved with the festival. Big thanks to all the great companies who donated cool product (WBR, Fuel TV, Loomstate, Much Music, Quiksilver, Logitech ++).

A big shout out to customs for allowing us to bring recycling store prizing across the border.

We've got plenty of photos from both festivals, so make sure you check out these Flickr sets:

09/08/2008 :: Hollywood Bowl

Tour Rider says goodbye on October 1st and 2nd as we close out our season with Neil Diamond. If you really love Neil, try riding the bus and subway with the Diamond Decipahls.

Concerts are 400% better when you’re traveling with a group as excited as you to hear “Coming to America.” Take the bus/subway, stop by the Tour Rider booth and receive all sorts of cool prizing including eco-friendly grocery bags, free lucky strike bowling passes, screening passes ++++ more.

09/03/2008 :: Outside Lands/Treasure Island Festivals In San Francisco :: Making Bill Graham Proud

In the past two years, San Francisco has come out swinging with super cool Outside Lands and Treasure Island Festivals. With the help of Another Planet and Discovery Channel's Planet Green network, we decided to bring the TRASHed Recycling Store to both.

Everything went off without a hitch at Outside Lands, save for the cold weather at the festival, and we invite everyone back to San Francisco this weekend to check us out at Treasure Island festival.

08/12/2008 :: Triple Header Weekend!
A whole lot of Virgin Festival US, All Points West & New American Music Union Festival

Just like El Nino, Global Inheritance took the east coast by storm and hit three major festivals on the same weekend!

TRASHed Recycling Store appeared at All Points West Music and Arts Festival across the river from New York City (Aug. 8-10) and Virgin Festival US in Baltimore (Aug, 9-10) along with Tour De Eagle bike power exhibit at New American Music Union. You might be wondering how it’s possible for Global Inheritance to be in three places at once.  Well... we hid the secret in David Copperfield’s Las Vegas warehouse. Just remember to bring a stun gun if you go looking.

Our third year in Baltimore offered another outstanding experience with our friends at Virgin Festival.

Planet Green presented the TRASHed Recycling Store, so we expanded our set up and offered thousands of recyclers the opportunity to score solar powered electronic chargers, iPods with Battlefield Earth episodes, Thievery Corporation CDs, Livity cell phone holders, Loomstate organic jeans, Rocker T’s ++ more.

A big shout out to Andrew and Jason for their support, Planet Green and all the large army of recyclers.

The coolest large scale festival to hit NYC since... a long time. With a better view than Woodstock, a great line up (Radiohead, Jack Johnson, Girl Talk, Duffy, +more) and no rioting/burning ATM machines...everyone with a ticket to this first year festival was loving life. Even the ferry program was outstanding. This is one of the best new venues to see a festival in the world.

With a hipster audience and a light breeze, the TRASHed Recycling Store devoured the homeless bottles/cans roaming the festival site. Thank you to all those people who supported us (AEG, Paul, Bill, Jonathon, Mark, Kyle, Neil and the rest of the crew).

08/08/2008 :: Teen Choice Awards :: Miley Cyrus = Green!

Fox invited Global Inheritance to assist and design environmental programs at this year’s Teen Choice Awards.

All the super-hyped teenage ticket holders were encouraged to recycle, compost, carpool, ride the subway, take the bus, power their phones on a bike, and scream, scream and scream for the Jonas Bros. Actually a lot of these kids were super cool, very interested in what was going on and only became distracted by major celebrity sightings.

We can’t wait until 2009 when we have more time to design our programs so we can compete head to head with Mariah Carey in a fair battle.

Here are a few photos minus J-Lo ::

08/06/2008 :: ESPN X Games 11 :: Home Depot Center (July 31 – August 3, 2008)

A shout out to one of our favorite partners....ESPN X Games. This is the 6th year in a row we’ve worked with the X Games. As always, we enjoyed our time with our friends at ESPN and X Games Environmentality.

This year festival goers vacuumed the grounds of those darn empty bottles and cans via the TRASHed Recycling Store and generated a ton of juice via the Tour De X Games bike power exhibit. In between catching Moto X sets and sneaking into the Skate Superpark, thousands of kids were purchasing amazing recycled goods (recycled trading card wallets, recycled record bags, signed skate decks, + more) and hopefully realizing that recycling is that simple and positive.

Special thanks to everyone – Michelle, Christiana, Molly, Bigge, Corrine (and the rest of the best).

07/28/2008 :: ESPY Awards

If you were tuning in or walking through LA Live in July, you may have witnessed the ESPY Awards.

ESPY had some help from our Bike Power Team while powering up their pre event ceremonies.  Our Bike Team pedaled our special energy-generating bikes to power blenders and get the night started right.

There's no better way to get a buzz going and showcase the power of manmade energy.

07/15/2008 :: Rothbury Festival 2008 :: So Massive, the Festival Had Its Own Lake!

This inaugural festival blazed out of the gate with the idea of breaking new ground in education and reducing the size of a festival carbon footprint.

Nowhere could you have found a bigger, better 4th of July party this year than in northwestern Michigan - where over 40,000 fans of the likes of Dave Matthews Band, Snoop Dogg, Widespread Panic, 311, and Primus gathered for this epic event.

Thanks to our partner, Planet Green, the new 24-hour eco-lifestyle channel from Discovery, for supporting our initiatives as Global Inheritance had not one but two TRASHed :: Recycling Stores.Empty bottles and cans were harder to spot than underage gymnasts. To see how serious festivalgoers were about cleaning up, check out the Flickr set.

Thanks to everyone who made this happen (AEG, Madison House, Spitfire, Kellie, +++)

05/01/2008 :: COACHELLA 2008

Rogue Flying Pigs, Wild Train Rides, Prince’s Crazy Tour Rider  + More.

It’s time to highlight our Coachella initiatives, release the photo galleries, say thank you to everyone involved and provide a guided tour of yet another classic year at the Coachella Music & Arts Festival.

Coachella Express :: The Best Train Ride Ever

If you were one of lucky ones who rode the sold out Coachella Express…

thank you for keeping your car in the garage, your money out of Chevron’s pockets and yourself in the festival history books.

Coachella, Global Inheritance and Amtrak worked over a year and half to pull this project together, thus making Coachella the first festival with its own train and exclusive train station.

All Coachella campers could ride the train free of cost.

Coachella Express riders enjoyed an exclusive DJ set from Junkie XL, VIP wristbands, ice cream cookies and a stress free roundtrip ride to the biggest and baddest festival in the United States.
If you’re interested in scoring a limited Coachella Express T-Shirt, send us an email :: CoachellaExpress@GlobalInheritance.org

All proceeds benefit Global Inheritance.

Energy FACTory & Wind Clock Tower

The Energy FACTory of 2008 offered the latest and greatest in renewable energy sources. Under the shade of a 45-foot-tall wind powered clock tower built using recycled metal and bamboo, festival goers experienced a variety of interactive exhibits including bike charging misters and cell phones, live screen printing on organic shirts, solar powered mannequins, biodiesel workshops, a solar powered DJ soundsystem + more.
Tour De Coachella :: A firsthand display of human energy generated by riding in the Tour De Coachella. A variety of different types of cell phone chargers were available along with 12 specially designed bikes that were used to power cell phones. People could also cool off under the hot sun by riding bikes that generated energy to power fans.
“Make It Yourself “ vegetable oil to biodiesel conversion showcased what’s possible when you work with festival vendors and turn excess vegetable oil into fuel. This energy was integrated into the Clock Tower to power the Clock turn table.
Apollo’s Posse :: Seven mannequins each designed to represent a different era of music, artist or genre. Every Mannequin had its own personal stereo system powered by solar shoulder bags that included iPod minis with their own play lists. On a larger level, the solar DJ sound system played through the day and into the night as festival goers partied with Apollo and the ultra violet rays.
Live Screen Printing :: T-shirt junkies could pick through a variety of original designs all printed on organic shirts featuring everything from organic cotton to bamboo. People could also add prints to their existing shirt to recycle their current look.
Need evidence?

Recycling Exchange :: 10 For 1

If you could count and were motivated, the 10 for 1 bottle exchange is for you.  Festival goers received one free water by recycling ten water bottles at select Recycling Exchange centers at Coachella.  This year saw the addition of an exchange center in onsite camping, which helped keep many campers happy and hydrated – all on a very low budget… just in time for the recession!

For more 10 for 1 Bottle Exchange pictures, go here ::

Carpooling with Carpoolchella

Now on year 2, all festival goers were encouraged to ride 4 or more in the car to save time, save money and put fewer cars on the road. If you missed out on Coachella Express, Carpoolchella is the next best thing. People driving full vehicles with a Carpoolchella sign in their window were randomly selected to win lots of cool prizes. Unlike last year, new winners were selected every hour on the hour, and prizes ranged from autographed gear to VIP Coachella tickets for life.

04/18/2008 :: Global Inheritance :: Final Coachella Update

Coachella is around the corner. We’d love to see you if you’re in the neighborhood.

If you’re off pet shopping in  Komodo Island or haven’t left your home since 1967, we will post images on our website after each day. If you’re still interested in attending, buy your tickets on the Coachella website.

If you want to showcase to  the world why you’re a Good Samaritan, bid on the single day VIP tixs/passes we are auctioning off to raise funds to support Global Inheritance (501c3 Nonprofit).

You can visit our auction page at: http://www.missionfish.org/NPMMF/nphomepage.jsp?NP_ID=14364

Thank you to everyone who’s helping out. They will remain nameless until the next 3 weeks are a wrap.

Here’s what on our agenda...

Come experience the Energy FACTory Under the 45 ft. Tall Wind Powered Clock Tower!

Last year, Global Inheritance brought you the Energy FACTory featuring cell phone charging bikes, solar powered misters, live screen printing, car conversation, ethanol cooked popcorn, and much more.

This year, we bring you the new and improved Energy FACTory with more punch than a church dance. The Energy FACTory  is anchored by a 45 ft. tall wind powered clock stationed at the main entrance as you walk into the festival. It’s an easy target

New Inside the Energy FACTory in 2008

Solar Power/Mannequin Exhibit
Solar energy will be represented in an art exhibit that merges music and mannequins.

Tour de Coachella
Last year’s cell phone charging bikes will make another appearance at Coachella 2008; however, this year we are adding misting fans to the list. As people pedal the bikes, the energy they create will be transferred into a fan, thus making the blades spin and providing a much needed cool down for festival goers and their friends.

Vegetable Oil to Biodiesel Conversion
This biodiesel exhibit will include informational demos and discussions about the pros and cons of producing and using biodiesel to fuel cars and other fossil fuel-guzzling items.  A live conversion of 50 gallons of  vegetable oil into biodiesel will also occur during the course of the weekend.

Ethanol Popcorn-Cooking Tree
If your stomach wants to go retro, stop by the Ethanol Popcorn Tree, Jiffy Pop popcorn is cooked using ethanol. If you’re lazy, we will even cook it for you.

Eco-Friendly Poster/Shirt Screen Printing
Eco-friendly screen printing allows festival goers to learn more about the world of sustainable fashion.

Original artwork and designs are printed onto shirts made of bamboo and organic cotton.

Solar Powered DJ Station
Apollo would be proud. Enough said.

+++++ Other Programs Include! +++++

Festival goers traveling 4 or more to a car are rewarded for their efforts by winning cool prizes every hour. People place a Carpoolchella badge in their car window and are randomly picked as they enter the venue.

Prizes for lucky Carpoolchellans include lifetime passes to Coachella,  limited edition signed EMEK prints, VIP tickets, plus much more cool stuff.

Festival goers can exchange empty bottles/cans for a new bottle of water. After a long day of break dancing and rocking out, nothing tastes better than frosty agua and the goodwill created by keeping the Coachella grounds clean. For every ten used bottles fans bring to the recycling center, they’ll receive one new bottle in return.

Global Inheritance artists will redesign 96 gallon recycling bins to create an environmentally conscious and interactive art walk. Ten different artists will be showcased this year at Coachella. The TRASHed redesigned recycling bins provide a fun, interesting, and interactive way to get people involved in keeping Coachella clean by recycling.

See you in Indio,

04/01/2008 :: Coachella Express Arrives To Indio

In our efforts to get festival goers back on track....AMTRAK, Coachella Music & Arts Festival and Global Inheritance present The Coachella Express.

This will be the first time ever that a music festival charters a free train for festival goers. Our goal is to reintroduce the train experience in the west, lower the number of cars on the road, and turn on those who never traveled on tracks.

In the age of blackberries, iPhones and PSPs you need both hands and eyes.  Guess what? Riding the train is handsfree, and you can ride with matching black eye patches if that’s your style.  That means more time emailing, reading and discussing with your neighbor whether or not the Apollo moon landing was staged!

Everyone loves the environment and saving major cash and time. Train travel provides all three. No rush hour traffic, road construction, or that annoying driver running out of gas in the middle car lane. You can even enjoy a frosty cold one because the conductor is dead sober and responsible for taking you safely to your destination.

Coachella Express is exclusively for Coachella campers. If you're holding a festival ticket, if you're camping onsite, and if you're down to board a train with 500 of your Coachella friends... run, don’t walk, to your computer to buy your Coachella tickets and sign up before the train sells out. http://www.coachella.com/visitors/amtrak

The train will leave Thursday afternoon, April 24 from historical Union Station to Indio, California and return Monday late morning, April 28.

Get your skis or boards out of storage and start warming up the cocoa because GI brings back the TRASHed: Recycling Store to X Games 12 in Aspen, Colorado with our friends Disney Enviromentality and the X Games!

In case you’ve forgotten, the TRASHed: Recycling Store is a store that only accepts bottles and cans as currency.  This year, we’ll be selling Logitech iPod speakers, Livity organic iPod cases, skate decks, autographed band merch, Guitar Hero video games, and a whole lot more.

This time around, the TRASHed Recycling Store will be accompanied by an Eco-Quiz -- a quiz that allows people who lack any radar of finding empty bottles/cans the chance to win store tokens by scoring an A.  X Games runs from
January 24-27.  If you make it up the mountain, help keep it clean by visiting the Recycling Store early and often.

09/27/2007 :: Public Displays Of Affection Series Two :: Good Times in Hollywood

The streets of Hollywood overflowed with Public Displays of Affection (PDA) this past Thursday as Ladytron,
Great Northern, and DJ Taina performed a free show for all public transportation riders.

Public Displays of Affection

Doors opened early as thousands flooded into the Hollywood & Highland Center using their subway/bus pass
as their concert ticket. While many believe that people in Los Angeles are notorious for embracing their cars with
such passion you would think they were attached at birth, the turnout for PDA provides evidence that change is
under way and the outlook on public transportation is being redefined.

09/16/2007 :: Treasure Hunt in San Francisco

Swervin' with Global Inheritance

Global Inheritance traveled up the I-5 to San Francisco to host the TRASHed Recycling Store at the first annual
Treasure Island Music Festival.

You could not have picked a better place in San Francisco to host a festival. People enjoyed the cityscape views as they jammed out to Thievery Corporation, MIA, Gotan Project, Modest Mouse, Spoon, and many more.

The TRASHed Recycling Store recruited a recycling army of thousands to insure that the festival grounds were spotless.

Motivated individuals exchanged their empty water bottles, cans, and biodegradable beverage cups for autographed band merchandise, festival t-shirts, Netflix memberships, VitaminWater, Logitech iPod speakers, badges to Noise Pop 2008, free tickets to upcoming Bay Area shows and much much more!

A huge thank you to the Stacy, Mike and the Noise Pop/Another Planet staff who were outstanding all weekend long! Big props to Whitney Zimmerman, Ryan Carney + Friends who donated their time/sweat to guarantee a successful campaign. Lastly, we thank the Bay Area who came out and showed us how it’s done... 09/10//2007 :: Global Warming Chess Battle in Canada

Global Warming Chess

What makes Canada so special that Global Inheritance has to travel at night in order to deal with kinder border check officials? It’s called Virgin Festival Toronto.... one of the major highlights on the world festival circuit.

Huge festivals with great talent on islands rule!  Global Inheritance cruised onto Centre Island bringing with it the TRASHed Recycling Store.  Virgin Festival goers exchanged thousands of bottles and cans for Motorola phones, Fuel TV skate decks, Loomstate Jeans, Future Shock Cards, Gelaskins iPod skins, Quiksilver t-shirts, Logitech speakers, Virgin merch and headphones + much more. Everyone in Canada is always super supportive and we had a good response both days.
Global Warming Chess

Global Inheritance also presented a brand new initiative: Global Warming Human Chess.

In this battle of momentous proportions, the causes of global warming (Oil, Coal, Hummers, Factories, Lobbyists, and Trash) came face to face with the cures (Wind Power, Solar Panels, Bikes, Trees, Scientists, and Recycling Bins) in the most informative and exciting chess match ever played by animal, mineral, or vegetable on Canadian soil.

Also, we kicked off our BIG TWISTER campaign that helps fund the POSTed campaign (Education Through Poster Art).

The concept around Big Twister is for people to select one of 5 causes and then battle on the Twister Mat to benefit their initiative.

08/07/2007 :: X GAMES 13 in the Record Books

X GamesGlobal Inheritance crossed the finish on Sunday with another successful year at the X Games bringing even more excitement and awareness to the athletes and fans at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles.

With the continued support of our partner X Games Environmentality and friends at X Games, thousands of empty bottles and cans were recycled at the TRASHed Recycling Store, hundreds of cars arrived full, recycling bins were redesigned and eco-friendly RC cars raced around the track.

Global Inheritance goes to the X Games

Recyclers received their pick of several cool items in the Recycling Store including belts made from skatedecks, purses from candy wrappers, bags from old records, organic Loomstate jeans and totes, Livity hemp iPod holders, Logitech headphones + lots more.

Smart people who were caught carpooling received prizes for everyone in the car, and four lucky drivers each won a grand prize in our daily drawing. Congrats to Darrell Murphy, Arleen Wend, Missy Basham and Mary Sachs. Prizes included four 2-day passes to Disneyland, including a night at one of the Disneyland resorts; 4 tickets to X Games 14 in 2008; 4 tickets to the Coachella Music Festival in 2008; and 4 Boost Mobile phones with a month's worth of minutes.

Global Inheritance also made our mark on the X Fest with the Alternative Fuel RC cars.

X Games fans raced RC cars, learning first-hand the benefits of alternative fuels and received the spotlight.

The Art of Recycling was also featured in the athlete lounge with live recycling bin painting.  Each day, a new artist showed their skills to the X Games athletes themselves. The bins looked awesome and everyone in the lounge gained a little insight.  Thanks to our artists Erik Siador, DemonBabies, Pinky and Josh Geyer!

If you missed out its not to late to come chill with Global Inheritance at the QuikSilverEdition Mission this summer for a screening of "Disarm," an independent documentary film that presents a contemporary and provocative view of the forces challenging the achievement of a landmine-free world. Looking beyond mines, Disarm offers an intelligent and critical investigation into how weapons systems, war, and the way war is waged are being redefined in the twenty-first century with devastating consequences. Film soundtrack scored by the likes of Thievery Corporation, Mum and Steven Drozd of the Flaming Lips. Join us on August 2, 2007 at 9pm to screen the film, which will be followed by a discussion led by the films directors Mary Wareham and Brian Liu. http://www.disarmfilm.org

Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars chronicles the story of six Sierra Leonean musicians who came together to form a band while living in a refugee camp in Guinea. Despite the unimaginable horrors of civil war, they were saved and brought hope and happiness to their fellow refugees through their music. As violent conflicts multiply around the globe and the worldwide refugee crisis deepens, Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars is a humanizing ode to all the innocent survivors of war whose brutal realities are often dismissed by surface mass media sound bytes.

06/05/2007 :: Sasquatch Festival :: Recycling with the Yeti

Sasquatch Festival

If you’ve never been to the gorge, you’re missing out. One of top three music venues in the country by far.

Our mission: deliver the TRASHed Recycling Store with the likes of Bjork, Arcade Fire, Beastie Boys, Interpol + more...

We added another layer this year as we offered people the chance to win a film screening of Focus Feature's "Talk to Me" [ http://www.focusfeatures.com ] to the biggest recycler and all of his or her friends (we also packed the store
with tons of cool merchandise – iPod speakers, out-of-stock vinyl, limited skate decks, organic jeans + more).

Due to the fact that the venue didn’t have recycling bins... saying we didn’t have a decent amount of foot traffic is an understatement.

4/27/2007 :: Global Inheritance and Coachella present the Energy FACTory Project

Coachella 2007:: Energy, Recycling, Bamboo and Carpooling

This year’s sold out festival featured several new programs created by Global Inheritance and Coachella. These programs highlighted a new shift in the festival direction to inspire individuals, minimize ecological impact and create a better festival experience.

Energy FACTory
The Energy FACTory highlighted renewable energy sources
and showcased the power of wind, solar, manmade,
biodiesel and ethanol.

Festival goers were able to recharge
their cell phones by riding in the Tour De Coachella.
A variety of different types of cell phone chargers were available along with 24 bikes that were used to power your
cell phone.

The FACTory also included “Make It Yourself “Biodiesel demonstrations, ask the Energy Experts, the
conversion of a car to electric, a wind powered light box, DJ Portal Potty station, solar powered misters and lighting
as well as live screen printing of energy posters inspired by the La Verdura – the Mexican card game of chance.

Recycling Exchange – 10 For 1
You had better chances of finding bootleg “Battlefield Earth” DVDs on the Coachella grounds then spotting a
empty bottle. Festival goers received free waters by recycling and enjoyed a spotless polo field. In its first year, the Recycling Exchange proved to be a huge success with over 160,000 bottles being recycled!

Coachella bamboo shirts were made available for the first time this year. These shirts sold out by the second day.
Bamboo shirts makes Charmin feel like grip tape. We are looking forward to expanding the collection of bamboo
and organic shirts in 2008!
Carpooling with Carpoolchella
This year all festival goers were encouraged to ride 4 or more in the car to save time, save money and put fewer
cars on the road. People driving full vehicles with a Carpoolchella sign in their window were randomly selected
to win “Coachella Tickets” for life. Each day our trackers selected a different car.

10/30/06 :: Public Displays of Affection :: Check out event photos on Flickr

Signs of Public Displays of Affection (PDA) filled the streets and underground of Los Angeles this past Tuesday. We received an overwhelming response @ Union Station and apologize to everyone who didn’t get into the main venue because we reached capacity. On a positive note, this unique venue still provided those outside the main entrance a view of the stage, so hopefully nobody missed the Secret Machines.

An incoming bus/subway ticket to Union Station was the only way to attend PDA. Historically, people in Los Angeles haven’t engaged public transportation in the way that cities like New York or London have, so we didn’t know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised to say the least. We hope the success of PDA will open Los Angeles’s eyes to the public transportation options that are a viable alternative to cars - especially for those living downtown.
